Mrauk U is situated in Rakhine State and can be reached by air and bus routes.

By Air

There are everyday flights from Yangon to Thandwe in Rakhine State. From Thandwe one can travel by car to Mrauk U.

By Car and Buses

There are also express bus routes from Yangon and other parts of the country, reaching Mrauk U. The main gateway to Rakhine is from Taunggot Township. From Taunggot it is connected by the road about 90 miles passing over the Rakhine mountain range. Another way to get there is through road from Pathein, Ayeyarwaddy Division. The road from it is connected to the southern part of Rakhine State and it reaches Gwa Township. And then easily proceed to the inner parts of Rakhine State by car.

By Boat

Main transportation relying by public is water transportation. Many cargoes carry by trucks stop at Taunggot and change to be shipping at the jetty of Taunggot. There are many directions from Taunggot heading to different areas of Rakhine state by water transport and Sittwe is the most far and longest way to travel by boats. The only fast speed boat service and of the available is the Malikha express, taking 8 hrs to Sittwe. The routes include starting from Taunggot and Ramree Township, Kyaukphyu Township, Myaybon Township and arrive to Sittwe.
