Wish-fulfilling Bamboo Reed Phaya
The Bamboo Reed Paya lies in Mong Nung Village,
about seven miles north-west of Mong Hkat, 51 miles
north of Kengtung in eastern Shan State. It was
built in pursuance of a dream by Upalan (Ashin Maha
Guru Nanda) on the 8th Waxing Moon Day of Pyatho 700
ME an completed in 702 ME.
Though it was built of bamboo strips and given a
gilding, it appears so elegant as though built in
gold. It is nine cubits high and six cubits in girth
at the base. In cross-legged position, it has its
left hand upturned, and its right hand, also
upturned, and touching the left at the tips, with
the eyes downcast. It is in Jana Mudra, or Yoga
Mudra or Thamadi Mudra.
