Baungdawkya Pagoda
It was built in 520 by Regent Min Shin Saw, son
of King Alaungsithu who ascended the throne in the
year 474. It was recorded that Prince Min Shin Saw
received the ire of King Alaungsithu for some
unknown reason and in the course of that he had to
stay in Htungon Putet Ward of Mandalay East. It was
known that he built this pagoda while he was staying
6\it there. It is said that, while paying reverence
to Payani Pagoda during the reign of Bodawpaya, the
headwear on the head came off and down. Hence the
name Baungdawkya Pagoda. It lies in the environs of
Phayani Pa¬goda between 21st and 22nd Streets, and
between 81st and 82nd Streets in Mandalay. |
