Kyetthayaysaung Maha Myatmuni Phaya
The Kyetthayaysaung Maha Myat Muni Phaya was
built at the initiative of Saopha of Kyaing Tong,
Sao Kunchauk Intraik in 1283 in Kyaing Tong, Eastern
Shan State. The image was cast in five metals by
sculptor U Thit and disciples of Le-ain-dan Ward,
near Railway Station of old Mandalay, to the
likeness of Maha Myatmuni Image. From the neck to
the head was cast in one viss and twenty ticals of
gold and 17 viss of silver plus bronze and brass.
At that time there was yet no road from Thipaw to
Kyaing Tong. So the image had to be conveyed
piecemeal, by manpower, carts and goodwill. Then it
spent one Waso at the temporary monastery at
Khonkoisun (now Myoma football grounds). It was
placed on the throne on Vihara Monastery in 1288.
Those who had been there have the belief that they
would be blessed with good health, they would also
have their wishes granted, and they would have
opportunity to visit the Image again.
