The Maha Lawka Okshaung Kyauktawgyi Buddha Image
lies in Hinthada, Ayeyawady Division, It was built
in Thadinkyut 127S as directed by Ashin Yazanya
Thaddhama Nandi, the second Parmauk leading patron
sayadaw, of Setra Yama Tamaik Monastery. It was the
third largest Buddha image in the country.
The largest was Maha Thetkya Yanthi built in 1192
by Sagaing Phan-Nan-Shin also known as Naungdawgyi,
and the second was Maha Thetkya Marazain built in
1226 by King Mindon of Mandalay. This Buddha image
was sculptured in Sagyin by Sculptors U Bo Saing and
U Ba at the behest of the sayadaw and brought to
Hinthada to arrive there in 127S. It is 17 feet
three inches high, with a brow upwards of three
cubits and four inches (brow eight feet) and, six
cubits of girth at the knees and 17 cubits of girth
all round. |
