Letwe Thalondaw Dhat Pagoda
The pagoda lies on Nanda Sula Pabbada (Small
Delightful Hillock) in the rahu corner of the royal
lake in Sittway during the reign of embryo-Buddha
King of Lizards. It was first built by King Thiri
Dhamma Thoka in Sakarit 222 enshrining the left
calf, of the Buddha, put ship-shape by successive
kings up to Rakhine king Min Hpalaung (Thiri Thuriya
Sanda Maha Raza) In Sakarit 947. It was then about
the height of an ox. Disuse after that made it into
a.pedigree banyan tree but in 1291, radiation came
from the banyan and it made people dig out the tree
to rebuild the new pagoda. So the pagoda bore no
trace of any fine works adorned by succesive kings
Min Saw Mun, Ba Saw Pyu, Min Pin, Min Hpalaung and
Min Yaza Gyi. Because it was rebuilt some 60 .years
ago and kept historically intact has it been famous
as a historic pagoda. |
