Maha Myat Muni Phaya (Mawlamyine)
The Maha Myat Muni is the most famous pagoda of
ail in Mawlamyine. It is cast in the likeness of
Maha Myat Muni Phaya Image in Mandalay. It lies on
the northern-most part to Naga Witha Range in
Mawlamyine. One of the queens of King Mindon named
Sein Tone evaded to Mawlamyine together with Sayadaw
Wizaya Yama, after the fall of King Thibaw's reign
in Mandalay.
The Sayadaw and the queen had an ardent desire to
pay obeisance to Maha Myat Muni Image of Mandalay. A
very pious disciple named Daw Shwe Bwint founded a
board to have an image cast in its likeness. She
herself led the board and made copies in Mandalay.
It was cast in Mawlamyine to be completed in 1266.
The image is f3 feet 8 inches from base to the top
and cast in 8164 ticals 3 pes of alloy — 1834 ticals
and 12 pes of-, gold, 6284 ticals and 7 pes of
silver and 35 ticals of mogyo alloy. |
