Myat Maw Tin Pagoda
Myat Maw Tin Pagoda is situated at Maw Tin Zun,
Ngaputaw Township, Pathein District, Ayeyarwady
Division. Maw Tin Zun is also called Nagayit
Mountain, Tharana Mountain and Neibban Mountain. It
was built on Saturday, full moon day of Waso,
Sakarit 103, enshrining the two hair relics obtained
from the two brothers Tapussa and Balika by
Zeyathena, the king of dragons.
It was built two months after Buddha's
Enlightenment and it was given the name Maha Makuta
Yanthi. It was repaired by Thiri Dhamma Thawka, the
king who held the Third Synod, King Alaung Sithu and
Sayadaws. In Sakarit 457, King Alaung Sithu
renovated the pagoda and renamed it Phaung-daw-Oo
Pagoda. It was therefore over 2500 years old, so
most historic and famous. |
