Phaungdaw-Oo Pagoda

The Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda lies near the big Hlay-hlaw-kan Lake, Nankhe Ward, Thaton, Mon State. It was built King Dhamma Pala of Thaton in Sasana Sakarit 942 In Sakarit 930, Mon monk named Ashin Maha Buddha Gosa went to western Sri Lanka and copied Buddha's preachings, the Three Pitakas and Five ikais in Pali and meanings from Sri Lanka into Myammar and came back to Myanmar aboard a ship with .Dekkhina Thakha, Relics and others.

On the 14th waxing day of Pyatho 932 it arrived back in Thaton and the Pitakas were conveyed to the royal palace. The king built a pagoda at the place for posterity. He also built the Bodhi Dekkhina Thakha, and those enshrining the pearl, the golden, and mulay flower relics. The guardians of the Pitakas, the Yekkha brother and sister, were honoured with fi gures in the east entrance of the pagoda.
