Phaungdaw-Oo Pagoda
The Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda lies near the big
Hlay-hlaw-kan Lake, Nankhe Ward, Thaton, Mon State.
It was built King Dhamma Pala of Thaton in Sasana
Sakarit 942 In Sakarit 930, Mon monk named Ashin
Maha Buddha Gosa went to western Sri Lanka and
copied Buddha's preachings, the Three Pitakas and
Five ikais in Pali and meanings from Sri Lanka into
Myammar and came back to Myanmar aboard a ship with
.Dekkhina Thakha, Relics and others.
On the 14th waxing day of Pyatho 932 it arrived
back in Thaton and the Pitakas were conveyed to the
royal palace. The king built a pagoda at the place
for posterity. He also built the Bodhi Dekkhina
Thakha, and those enshrining the pearl, the golden,
and mulay flower relics. The guardians of the
Pitakas, the Yekkha brother and sister, were
honoured with fi gures in the east entrance of the
pagoda. |
