Shwe Myin Tin Mu Htaw Pagoda
It was built by King Alaung-sithu of Bagan in
Myaing, Pakokku District, Magway Division. The King
ascended the throne in Sakarit 455 (AD 1113) as the
45th. He was on tour to the land of Zabu Thabye and
back from there when the royal barge stopped moving
when it got to the place. He looked out, to see
clouds in the sky with an opening for a steed moving
back and forth. He had it interpreted by seers as
for a place of good deeds of forebears So he had a
search carried out, to find a pagoda in Hmaing (now
Myaing). It had been one among 84000 built by Thiri
Dhamma Thawka the great king. Alaung Sithu built a
bigger pagoda over and above the old one. He had the
horse and bridle built of his weight in gold, with
the mane built in emerald, eyes in rubies, and four
hoofs in emerald and had it conse¬crated there. It
was called Shwe My in Tin in recognition of the
horse found by Alaung Sithu, in the sky. It was
facing east, with a pagoda inside. Like all Mu Htaw
pagodas, its base is circular. |
