Thardawya Pagoda
It was built by King Duttabaung and Queen Saw
Myawady, the king having ruled for seventy years
from 101 to 171 in Threkhittaya. It is in Kyunlon U-shaung
Ward Mandalay, about a furlong from the two lions at
the west entrance of Maha Myat Muni Phaya. It has
four pagodas of Ninsinnao Mudra, four caves and four
entrances, with a height of 10 cubits (about 15
feet). Legend has it that King Duttabaung banished
Queen Saw Myawady due to his anger. When the queen
got to the venue of the pagoda, she gave birth to a
son. Hearing it, the king went out with full
entourage. The king and the queen then enshrined her
nine-stone ear studs and jewellery to build this
pagoda to mark the site of the birth of their son. |
