Yogo Pagoda
Yogo Pagoda lies in Yogo Monastery, Yogo Village,
Mudon Township, Mon State. Buddha was on sojourn to
Sri Lanka when he granted two hair relics for Hermit
Gona. One of them was granted to the guardian of the
hill Bandaya who enshrined it in the pagoda. It was
known as Gona Pagoda. Later, it became known as Yogo
Pagoda. Some believe that it emitted radiance and so
called it Radi- ance in Mon script. Later, it became
Yogo Pagoda. It became more well known when it was
repaired to its present height by rich man Manya who
lived at he foot of the Yogo Pagoda during the time
Thiri Dhamma Thawka Yaza was building the 84000
pagodas. It was later given finishing touches by U
Deinna the King of Yammapura. |
