Ecotourism

Myanmar is a land full of richness in nature and the diversity of species. The ecosystems in this country constitute one of the biological reservoirs in Asia. The land area of Myanmar is 261,228 square miles, with a variety of natural resources, plants and animals. The Ministry of Forestry is responsible for maintain the forests of Myanmar. There are over 7,000 plants and over 1,000 endemic species. Also, there are about 1,000 bird species, 300 mammals, 350 reptiles are recorded. The richness of the biodiversity in nature gives Myanmar a way for Ecotourism. The general concept of ecotourism is to restrict the number of visitors within the carrying capacity of the ecotourism site. The allowable tourism level at such areas will vary with the tolerant sensitivity of the type of forests and its environment. National Kandawgyi Garden is located in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay. The Area is about 344.81 acres and was established in 1915. This Garden before was known as National Botanical Garden. It serves as a recreation centre for the public and as an ecotourism site for the tourists. More >>

Shwesettaw Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Minbu, Setote-taya, Saku and Ngapeh Townships of Magwe Division. The total area is 213.4 square miles. It was established in 1940. This sanctuary is to conserve the deer of Myanmar and the dry zone. More >>

Khakaborazi National Park is located in Naungmung Township of Kachin State and it covers an area of 1,472 square miles. This park is to conserve natural forests and wildlife in the northern part of Myanmar. More >>

Inle Lake Sanctuary is a wetland sanctuary and located in Naung Shwe, Pinlaung and Peh Kon Townships of Southern Shan State. It covers an area of 642.32 square miles and was established in 1985. This sanctuary is to conserve and protect natural vegetation, wetland birds and fresh water fishes in Inlay sanctuary. More >>

Seint Ye Forest Camp is located in Oaktwin Township of Bago Division and was established during the year 1996. It occupies an area of 102 acres. This forest camp is to observe natural teak forests and teak growing environmental conditions. More >>

Myaing Hay Wun Elephant Camp is located in Taikkyi Township of Yangon Division. It has an area of 10 acres and established in 1986. The aim of this Camp is to develop and promote from Elephant Nursing Camp to Myaing Hay Wun Elephant Research Camp. More >>

Located in Kanpet-let, Mindut and Matupi Townships of Chin State, Nat Ma Taung National Park was established in 1994. It covers and area of 279 square miles. To conserve the watershed areas of Lemro river, Myitha river, Saw Chaung, Maw Chaung, Salin Chuaung, Che Chaung, Yow Chaung, Mon Chaung and the animals in it. More >>
