Sagaing Region is a division of Myanmar. located in the north-western part of the country between latitude 21° 30′ north and longitude 94° 97′ east. It is bordered by India’s Nagaland and Manipur States to the north. Kachin State. Shan State. and Mandalay Region to the east. Mandalay Region and Magway Region to the south. and Chin State and India to the west. The region has an area of 93.527 km². and population(1996) of over 5.300.000. The capital is Sagaing.
Sagaing Region consists of 198 wards and villages. 38 townships and eight districts; Sagaing. Shwebo. Monywa. Katha. Kale. Tamu. Mawlaik and Hkamti. The major cities are Sagaing. Mingun. Monywa. Shwebo and Mogok.
Among the natives of the Sagaing Region. the Naga New Year Festival is usually held in January. This festival is most well-known from all over the world and many tourists come to visit the rare tribe’s culture of Myanmar.
In the Sagaing Region. across the Ayeyarwaddy River are the Mingun Pahtodawgyi and the Largest Ringing bell known as Mingun Bell. The Sagaing Hill is the main place for meditation. Thanboddhay Pagoda in Monywa is another tourist destination.
